Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Below are some of the answers to some of our frequently asked questions. As always, if you have any other questions, give Troy a call, or fill out our form here.

Q: What are the monthly fees?

A: There are no monthly fees at Small Stakes Racing! Unlike traditional offerings that require ongoing payments for training and upkeep, our unique model ensures that once you’ve secured your interest in a horse, you won’t be hit with surprise costs or recurring fees.

Q: Why are there no fees?

A: We’ve built Small Stakes Racing to be as affordable as possible by forming strategic partnerships with trainers who share our philosophy on harness racing. Through mutually beneficial agreements, we keep costs low without sacrificing quality. Our trainers understand the value of working with engaged owners, and this collaboration allows us to provide an ownership experience that is both affordable and enjoyable.

Q: What does a ‘100% ownership experience’ mean?

A: Even though you may own an interest in a horse, we want you to feel like a full-fledged owner. This means:

  • Regular Updates: You'll receive direct communication about your horse’s progress, training, and race schedule.
  • Trainer & Stable Access: Get insights from trainers and, where possible, visit the stables to see your horse in person.
  • Race Day Privileges: Enjoy ownership benefits like a free race book, receiving prize money, and attending race days with owners' access.

Q: How do I collect my prizemoney?

A: When your horse wins or places, prizemoney is distributed directly to owners. This is handled through the relevant racing authorities, and we ensure that payments are processed quarterly (while the horse is racing) so you receive your portion without delays. We’ll provide you with all the necessary details and assist you in setting up your ownership payment process.

Q: Who decides when the horse runs?

A: The decision on when a horse races is made by the trainer, in consultation with our Harness Racing expert, Troy. Together, they assess key factors such as the horse’s fitness, recent form, and suitable race conditions before selecting the right race. Owners are always kept informed about upcoming race plans, and while we welcome your input, the priority is ensuring the horse is race-ready and in peak condition to perform at its best.

Q: How do I get an owner's ticket to watch my horse race?

A: As an owner, you’ll have access to race day privileges, including owners' tickets. When your horse is entered in a race, we’ll notify you in advance with instructions on how to secure your owner's ticket. These can typically be collected at the racecourse on the day or pre-arranged through the racing club hosting the event. We’ll guide you through the process to ensure you can be there to cheer on your horse from the best seats in the house!

Q: Do you have a terms and conditions of sale document?

A: Yes, you can find it here.
