Breaking Down Barriers: A New Way to Own a Racehorse with Small Stakes Racing

Breaking Down Barriers: A New Way to Own a Racehorse with Small Stakes Racing

(By Troy Anderson, Small Stakes Racing)

Racing Shouldn’t Be Just for the Wealthy

For years, racehorse ownership has been seen as something reserved for deep-pocketed investors and syndicates willing to throw big money into high-risk bets. But what if there was a way to be part of the action without breaking the bank?

That’s exactly what we’re building at Small Stakes Racing—an opportunity for everyday racing fans to own a share in harness racing horses at an affordable price.

What is Small Stakes Racing?

We’re on a mission to make harness racing ownership more accessible by keeping costs low, selecting the right trainers, and carefully investing in horses with strong potential. Whether you’re a lifelong racing fan or a newcomer, Small Stakes Racing lets you experience the thrill of ownership for a fraction of the usual cost.

How It Works

We take care of the hard part—selecting the right horses and trainers—so that you can focus on enjoying the ride. Here’s how it works:

  1. Low-cost entry points – Small buy-ins to keep ownership affordable.
  2. Carefully selected trainers – We work only with trainers who know how to develop winners without over-spending.
  3. Transparent costs – No surprise fees. You’ll know exactly what you’re paying for.
  4. Community ownership experience – Exclusive updates, insights, and events for members.

Why Now? Harness Racing’s Changing Landscape

Harness Racing has always been seen as a lesser option, but there is no better value for money than a Standard Bred Horse and we want to showcase this to Australia. The industry is evolving, and Small Stakes Racing aims to open new doors for those who’ve always dreamed of ownership.

The rise of group-ownership models has already proven successful in thoroughbred racing. We’re bringing that same accessibility to harness racing—with a focus on smart investment, quality training, and a sustainable model for small investors.

Why I’m Backing This Project

Having spent years in the Harness Racing industry, from working at Entertainment Park Melton as the Racing Manager to analysing form and markets at a corporate bookmaker, I’ve seen firsthand how the best opportunities aren’t always about throwing the most money at a horse. The right trainer, the right selection process, and smart management make all the difference.

At Small Stakes Racing, I’ll be using my experience to:
Evaluate which trainers we partner with – We’ll only work with those who prioritize smart conditioning and sustainable training.
Assess potential horses for investment – It’s not about chasing high-price yearlings; it’s about selecting horses that can deliver value for owners.
Provide insights and updates – Owners will get inside knowledge on their horses from the trainer as well as a race analysis and market to help better inform you.
